A shout-out for sustainability

In the spirit of Earth Day, Coalesce is highlighting a few companies that use creative, earth-friendly packaging designs, helping to reduce their corporate footprints. Cheers to less junk in the junkyard!
Frito-Lay’s SunChips has vowed to introduce the first fully compostable snack chip bag, made from plant-based materials, by 2010. Way cool – check it out: http://www.sunchips.com/healthier_planet.shtml
Pangea Organics uses recycled glass, #2 plastic (the most recyclable grade available), and molded boxes made from 100% recycled newspaper pulp to package its facial and body care products. http://www.pangeaorganics.com/home.html
The HP Pavillion dv6929 notebook computer comes in a protective messenger bag made from recycled materials, reducing packaging by 97%. No Styrofoam or cardboard necessary! http://h71036.www7.hp.com/hho/cache/605859-0-0-225-121.html
But you don’t have to be a major corporation to make a commitment to Mother Earth. The Coalesce team agrees that if we all do a little, we can accomplish a whole lot. To get started, try one or two…or all…of the ideas below:
Dana – Use compact fluorescent or LED light bulbs
Judy – Use a refillable water bottle or bring your own mug with you to get coffee
Shauna – Bring our own bags with us to stores
Emily – Turn off the lights, TV, radio, etc when you leave the room
Melissa – Use less toilet paper
Mike – Carpool and Bike/Walk to places that you normally would drive
Michelle – Install a programmable thermostat to reduce heat usage at night and when you’re not home
Lisa – Close the curtains/shades in the summer to keep heat down inside – and vise versa in the winter
Kristin – Buy products with minimal packaging
