Appleton’s Octoberfest!

Posted by coalescemarketing on September 27, 2012

It’s that time again, and we couldn’t be more excited. Appleton’s annual Octoberfest celebration kicks off tomorrow and runs through Saturday. The event is jam packed with a car show, family fun, musical performances, amazing food and drink, and spotlights on area businesses. Throw into the mix the over 100,000 people who will be in attendance and there’s no doubt it’ll be a blast. It’s the area’s biggest block party, and you don’t want to miss it.

We sure don’t, anyway! Coalesce team members will be tending bar on Saturday from 3:00-5:30pm near the WAPL stage and the Paper Valley Hotel (on the corner of Division Street), so come and see us! Public service announcement: Make sure to bring your ID…everyone gets carded.

And, due to the recent Monday Night Football debacle, the Octoberfest executive committee announced that everyone who plans to attend the festivities should wear Green and Gold in support of the Packers. For more up to the minute announcements and event details, be sure to “like” Appleton’s Octoberfest on Facebook and check out their website.

There really is nothing quite like this local event. We’re thrilled to take part, and we can’t wait to see you there. Cheers!

Plinko, anyone!?

Posted by coalescemarketing on August 23, 2012

Gina, Dana and Lisa spent time at the New North Investor Event on Wednesday. It was a great opportunity to network and share information about what we do at Coalesce. We decided to spice things up, and offered those that stopped by to see us the opportunity to play everyone’s favorite game, Plinko! Contestants tried their luck to win “orange” prizes such as Orange Crush soda, Orange Tic Tacs, or our brand new Coalesce Orange Tumblers.

Check out these photos from our day! And, if you’re interested in acquiring your very own Orange Tumbler, stop by our office and talk with us! We’d love to see you!

Out of the Office Fun

Posted by coalescemarketing on July 13, 2012

It’s been a busy week for the Coalesce team both in and out of the office. While we’re always bustling about, getting projects completed for clients and planning our next great marketing and design endeavor, after work, we’ve really embraced Summer as a time to get out and experience what the great state of Wisconsin has to offer.

Lisa recently volunteered as a driver for the LPGA event held at Blackwolf Run in Kohler.

Todd, his wife and their brood of five enjoyed a get-away at their family’s cottage in Spread Eagle.

Judy invested in a blow-up pool complete with a water slide, and took a family trip to Bay Beach in Green Bay.

Jason and his band, 5Man, performed last night at Rock U.S.A. in Oshkosh.

Dana went camping with family and a group of friends at Boulder Lake. Between all the families, there were 8 kids under the age of 4. In tents. Talk about relaxing!

Gina took a ride on the East Troy Electric Railroad to enjoy a picnic lunch with family at the Elegant Farmer in Mukwonago.

Leah’s family made their annual trek to Summit Lake and enjoyed the sunshine, winds and “modern” cottages.

Shauna has a three month old, so her summer activities have consisted of family gatherings in the backyard. A large blow-up kids pool might be involved.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this small window into what Team Orange does when they’re not hard at work in the office! What have you been up to this Summer? We’d love to hear about it! Have a happy Friday, everyone!

Posted by coalescemarketing on June 15, 2012

I recently had an eye appointment. The doctor I visited could not have been more evasive in answering my questions. He told me I needed to come back for a procedure, but didn’t really explain why or what it would cost me out-of-pocket. I left feeling as if I was being completely taken advantage of. Needless to say, I didn’t go back. Instead, I sought out another opinion. The second eye doctor I saw clearly explained to me what needed to happen, why it needed to happen, how soon it could happen and exactly what it would cost me. Talk about opposite experiences!

These varying encounters got me thinking about something I’ve heard referred to in business as “transparency.” The term itself is often found on lists of buzz words categorized as “cliches.” I find the term “transparency” to be rather abstract, but if we unpack what is really meant when the term is used, I must admit that the sentiment makes sense.

I think what we really mean when we throw around the term “transparency” is honesty, straightforwardness and disclosure. Those are characteristics I can get behind. The second eye doctor showed me the respect I deserved as a client when he honestly explained what needed to happen and was upfront with me about how much it would cost. I knew what I was getting into, and I could make a decision based on all the facts.

This is what we owe our clients. Call it transparency. Call it honesty. Call it good business. To be fair to those we serve, we must be truthful with them about our skills, about our limitations and about how much it’s going to cost them. Doing so goes a long way in fostering lasting relationships and future business.

I’ll be going back to the (second) eye doctor.

A Super (Bowl) Challenge

Posted by coalescemarketing on February 3, 2012

Super Bowl weekend is upon us, and it’s almost expected that as a marketing firm, we discuss the upcoming barrage of commercials. You know, the usual – who’ll take the cake for best 30- or 60- second spot? What crazy stunts will be pulled this year? Will the Ferris Bueller re-take be a hit or a miss? These are the types of things that it seems everyone is talking about.

We’ve been thinking a little deeper though. As much as we love commercials (and don’t get us wrong, that Volkswagen mini Darth Vader stole our hearts last year), we’ve also been thinking more “big picture.”

What are Super Bowl commercials really about, anyway? Don’t think too hard on that one – getting the audience’s attention, of course. Whether that be with models, cars, babies, dogs, movie stars or whatever, the goal of each company that pays $3.5-4 million dollars for less than a minute’s worth of time is to be noticed – to grab people’s attention and keep people talking. Still, the biggest beef people usually have with Super Bowl commercials is that they remember the commercial but not the brand.

Don’t let that happen to you.

Here’s our Super Bowl challenge. Consider your marketing strategy. How are you positioning your brand to be recognized and remembered? Is your biggest marketing effort a monthly ad in a local magazine? Great. How are you going to make your ad stand out from the other 30 in the publication? Are you thinking about redesigning your logo, or are you just starting out and creating a logo for the first time? Awesome. What are you going to do to make prospective customers connect with the image?

Truth be told, most of us cannot afford million dollar TV spots. But, regardless, we can still make the most of our marketing efforts by ensuring careful thought is put into the message and medium.

Since we are marketing professionals and we can’t resist engaging in this conversation, comment here or tweet @CoalesceInc and let us know your favorite Super Bowl commercials. Better yet, give us a call at 920.380.4444 to discuss ways to wow your audience.

Santa’s Elves Are Wearing Orange This Year!

Posted by coalescemarketing on December 12, 2011

Here at Coalesce, we’ve been spreading holiday cheer in more ways than one.

Last week, we kicked off the holiday season with a bang. Our company Christmas party provided many laughs and a great chance to celebrate a happy 2011.

We’ve been using our lunch hour to catch up on Christmas classics like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

And, taking a cue from Rudolph (well, I guess from Hermie – though he wanted to be a dentist, so maybe not), we’ve also been channeling our inner elves. Recently, we encouraged friends, clients and community partners to grow their holiday spirit with us. Our contest to win $500 to donate to an area non-profit organization was a huge success. We had over 85 applicants, all giving extremely worthy explanations for why they were nominating the non-profit they had chosen.

The winner of our holiday spirit giveaway random drawing is Jim Bott from Fulfillnet. And, the non-profit of his choice is Goodwill Industries. For more information: . Thank you to everyone who entered and for your heartfelt support of area non-profits. Holiday spirit is definitely in the air!

New Addition …

Posted by coalescemarketing on September 12, 2011

No, we are not talking about New Edition; the R&B group from the 80’s, though, now I wish we were, because I was a FAN … “Candy girl. You are my world. You’re loves so sweet. You’re a special treat.”

The Coalesce family would like to welcome Brielle Elizabeth Kohlbeck; daughter of our very own Account Manger, Dana Kohlbeck. Brielle was born 09.07.2011 at 9:56pm. She weighed 7lbs 3oz and was 19.5 inches long. She’s as gorgeous and fashionable (already) as her mother.

AFF – Fox River Ad Club ADDYS Awards

Posted by coalescemarketing on March 21, 2011

What does a World War II era air plane, a giant walking shamrock and several dozen awards for creative excellence have in common? All could be seen at the 2010 AFF – Fox River Ad Club ADDY Awards.

Competitor advertising, design and photography agencies from around the Fox Valley region joined together on St. Patrick’s Day for an evening of camaraderie and fellowship in celebration of creativity. EAA’s Eagle Hanger setting along with a 1940s wardrobe set the perfect tone. Men donned war uniform suites complete with brass buttons and honor patches while the women dressed in luxurious hats, gloves, long skirts or swinging party dresses topped with bright red lipstick, and hair set in pin curls. Toes were tapping and coupled danced to the jazzy big band sound of Bay City Swing.

To top it off, the Coalesce crew was proud to accept 4 ADDY awards (one gold and three silver) in the categories of: Sales Promotion Campaign, Online Advertising, Mixed/Multiple Media and Advertising for the Arts & Sciences.

Come Along for the Ride!

Posted by coalescemarketing on March 8, 2011

Celebrating 25 years of biking and gourmet food

Commemorative Logo featured on T-Shirts and Jerseys

On Sunday, July 24th,  Best Friends of Neenah Menasha celebrates their 25th year of the Gourmet Bike Tour. To mark this anniversary, they have added a 100-mile century ride and a special celebration on the day of the event along with an educational fair. In addition, a special commemorative bike jersey is being offered to registrants which can be purchased separately during registration.

If you aren’t familiar with this event, here’s the skinny:

The Best Friends Gourmet Bike Tour is a ride through the Neenah countryside with many routes to choose from. The family friendly 4- and 12-mile routes are very popular for those with kids, and the 25-mile route is great for intermediate riders. Then there is also a 53-, 73-,  and the new 100-mile route this year too. All routes include rest stops along the way, and the best part is that they feature baked goods, fresh fruits, and beverages – during your ride. Heck with those packs of GU – you’ll get 7-layer bars made by somebody’s Grandma –now that’s cool!  Following the tour, a Gourmet Picnic is served from 11:00am to 4:00pm back at St. Mary’s school in Neenah where you started the day. The lunch features homemade soups, vegetables, beverages, sub sandwiches, wraps and calzones.

Registration is open on so go ahead and sign up.

See you there!

Art from the Heart: Before

Posted by coalescemarketing on February 21, 2011

Judy and Lisa spent a nice Saturday evening with other volunteers at The Fire Art Studio in downtown Appleton. The event, called Art from the Heart, was held to create custom auction items that can later be bid upon at the Go Red for Women’s luncheon, a signature event held by the American Heart Association.

They had a great time flexing their creative muscle and can’t wait to see how their pieces turned out. Here are the before pictures (no, that’s not a salad plate) of their glass fusing creations. We’ll post the after pictures once the pieces have been fired.

Get out your pocketbooks and get ready to bid on these fine works of art!

Super Bowl XLV – A Commercial Review

Posted by coalescemarketing on February 8, 2011

As marketing professionals and avid Green Bay Packer fans, Super Bowl XLV presented a unique challenge: to watch the field or take in the ads?

As it’s quite challenging to keep focus on the television for 4 straight hours, we’re thankful for YouTube! The Coalesce team reviewed and voted on our top commercial picks from the evening, and this year, one stood out as a clear winner: Volkswagen Passat with its “Little Vader” spot was not only cute, but very memorable. And with more than 20 million hits on YouTube, it looks like we’re not alone!

So congrats to Volkswagen for a successful 2011 Super Bowl showing! And to all the advertisers gearing up for 2012 game, may the force be with you …

Get your peanuts HERE!

Posted by coalescemarketing on December 3, 2010

The Coalesce team has been busy serving as the agency of record for New North, Inc., and has been prepping for the last few months to make the annual summit event go off without a hitch. Lisa, Michelle, Gina and Todd are all volunteering for today’s event at UW-Oshkosh. And to show how we roll up our sleeves and get involved, Todd and Gina jumped-in to serve as “hawkers”, peddling popcorn and peanuts, to keep in line with the overall summit sports theme.
